Burpham Anglo-Saxon Burh

The area known as Burpham Camp is an Iron Age promontory fort which is protected by steep natural cliffs on all sides except the north.

The North side is protected by a large bank and external ditch and includes the site of the gateway into the area.

The area of the fort now contains the village hall and a recreation ground. Construction of a cricket pavilion revealed two post-built structures of Anglo-Saxon date.
